Keith and Val's Falkland Islands

San Carlos

San Carlos is a three hour drive from Stanley along the southern link-road. It is situated on the bank of San Carlos Water, on the western coast of East Falkland. Although close to Port San Carlos (about 5 miles as the Albatross flies!) there is currently no road linking the two settlements. It is possible to drive across 'camp' but local knowledge (and significant off-road driving experience!) is needed.

There are no major wildlife colonies close to the settlement but the scenery is spectacular. Most visitors go to San Carlos to visit the British war cemetery and memorial. The Blue Beach Lodge also houses a small museum.
